The Frank Vignola Trio has performed at numerous prestigious venues throughout the US and Europe, including this incredible performance at The Homer Center for the Arts, in New York in 2009. Frank's trio features young guitarist Vinny Raniolo, bassist Pete Coco and special guest, legendary guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli. This live show is one of the best the trio has ever performed and should be part of everyone's music collection.
Frank'N'Dawg (Audio CD) Frank Vignola & David Grisman
Groovemasters Vol. II
Frank Vignola with David Grisman have been friends and musical cohorts for years, and the time had come for them to collaborate on a special collection of acoustic duet performances of some of their favorite melodies from the Great American Songbook. Remarkably, these 14 tunes were all chosen, arranged and recorded (live to 2-track analog) in one day.
Frank'n'Dawg are both great admirers of melody and wanted that to be the focus of this project - without sacrificing either spontaneity or groove. These finely-crafted melodies are once again reborn as mandolin-guitar duets, both timeless and timely.
On this set of 14 familiar Gershwin songs, Vignola plays swing creating fresh ideas within the vintage genre in his own style. Accompanied by Corey Christiansen, bassist Tom Kennedy and Joe Ascione. Vignola mostly performs straightforward solos, with the exception of a humorous rendition of the closer "But Not for Me." The music is quite accessible, witty in spots, and always swings. The overall results are rewarding and easily recommended to fans of the swing guitar.
